TQS, Télévision Quatre
Saisons, is the smaller of the two French-language
television networks in Quebec, launched on September 7,
1986. Its programming style is similar to that of
Citytv. Despite this, the network has been in an
indeterminate corporate and financial state for the
majority of its history. The members of the Pouliot
family, who used to own CFCF-TV, were the original
owners of the network. Then, the network was sold to
Vidéotron, owners of the TVA network. Vidéotron then
tried to combine TQS with TVA, but it didn't turn out
well. TQS was then sold to Quebecor, which then bought
Vidéotron, putting TQS and TVA together again. TQS was
then sold again. Right now, Cogeco and Bell Globemedia
(CTV) have joint ownership of the network. Cogeco owns
60% of TQS, while Bell Globemedia has the balance.
TQS's on-air slogan
translates, quite literally, to "television's black
sheep", and the network even uses a black sheep as its
symbol on-air. However, in the opinion of the
webmaster, TQS is too good of a network to deserve that
slogan.
Only six TQS stations
are charter members of the network. The two non-charter
TQS stations are CFVS and CFTF.
